Encounter Groups
Encounter groups are a powerful way to learn about yourself through authentic connection with others. Developed by Carl Rogers, they create a space where genuine human meeting becomes possible.
What is an Encounter Group?
In everyday life, we often hide behind social masks and roles. We say what's expected, not what we truly feel. An encounter group offers something different: a space to be authentically yourself and to meet others who are doing the same.
There's no agenda, no topic to discuss, no problem to solve. The group simply comes together to be present with each other. What emerges from this open space is often surprising and deeply meaningful.
How does it work?
The group follows the principles of the person-centred approach:
Authenticity
Expressing what you genuinely feel and think, rather than what seems socially appropriate.
Empathy
Listening deeply to others and trying to understand their experience from the inside.
Acceptance
Welcoming each person as they are, without judgment or the need to change them.
The only commitment is to participate fully and to try to embody these principles - without any pressure to succeed. The facilitator creates and maintains the safe space, but doesn't direct the group.
What can you gain?
- Deeper self-knowledge through feedback from others
- Experience of being truly seen and accepted
- Practice in authentic communication
- Connection with others beyond surface-level interaction
- Understanding of group dynamics and your role in them
Multilingual groups
Following the tradition of Carl Rogers' international workshops, our groups welcome participants from different language backgrounds. The main language is English, but you can express yourself in your preferred language when needed - German, Czech, French. What matters is not perfect language skills, but the willingness to connect.
